Audience Experience of Metaverse Sociodrama Using Avatar

Abstract
This study is a qualitative study on the audience experience of participating Metaverse sociodrama using avatar. The participants were 10 psychodramatists who participated Metaverse sociodrama via zoom on January 22, 2022, and the data were analyzed by Colaizzi¡¯s phenomenological research method. The results showed that 8 thematic clusters and 21themes were derived, and the thematic clusters were ¡®doubt about unfamiliar metaverse sociodrama and the use of avatar¡¯, ¡®lighting up about a totally strange thing¡¯, ¡®avatar seeming insufficient as a replacement¡¯, ¡®welling up to participate¡¯, ¡®encounter with avatars delivering their mind¡¯, ¡®finding a secure base behind avatar¡¯, ¡®witnessing metaverse sociodrama as a new horizon¡¯, and ¡®hope for metaverse sociodrama to expand and progress.¡¯ The result showed that audience became involved with role players who used avatar body and were able to share feeling and thoughts. Audience witnessed those role players behind avatar fully with safe expressing their feelings and thoughts, and discovered positive functions of metaverse sociodrama, which was found as the meaning of this study.
